The biggest most important wake contest of the the year hits the water in Oklahoma.

I am 18 years old and had the opportunity to attend a Malibu wakeboarding clinic in Great Falls put on by Greg Young and Brent Starr of the Northwest Riders. These guys were terrific. They helped me with my technique, I mastered a few tricks, and they gave me lots of confidence. They were 2 of the nicest guys I've ever met. I enjoyed boarding with them so much, that my family took a trip to Lake Blaine Montana to do a second clinic 2 weeks later. We had a great time again. Thank you to Malibu boats for sponsoring guys like Greg and Brent and the Northwest Riders. Keep it up!

While in Cleveland I got the pleasure of hookin’ up with Adam Banton to ride Chenga 57. Banton has been doing shows in the greater Ohio area for 3 months, kinda going nuts. He always has some weird moves to show me. When we started shooting video, he was rollin’ on his back on the grind ledge.

I am in the middle of making a video for the site, so sit tight, you don’t want to miss this. He has 57 wired, tailwhips, hip hops, meatloaf screams, and down side footplants on the wall. Thanks to Adam, Powell for going bald, and Kerry for runnin’ a sweet place. If you’re in the area, check out Chenga 57 for sure….

Caught up with Brian Kachinsky at Dew Tour in Cleveland. He brought me to this rail and had more than a few moves on it. Etnies has the sequence over on their site, so check it out ASAP This pic at right is big gap to rail; Brian actually gapped over this lady here in the pic; she is my teammate. Get some….

Dennis McCoy invited me back this year to judge the Dew Tour in Cleveland. Couldn’t pass this up seeing as I stayed with new judge Dave Freimuth, always a good time. With judging I also wanted to ride the new Chenga 57 and Rays mountain bike park. So I needed to get a car.

Called the hotel and get a rental car guy, give him my info to get a rate and he freaks out. Couldn’t believe it was Chad DeGroot. Long story short he hooks up an insane deal and upgrades me. When he pulls the car up i’s a black Mustang. Not exactly bike traveling friendly, but I wasn’t complaining.

Never had a muscle car to peel out in, only minivans. This car would peel out everywhere, didn’t even need a wet street. He also had me sign an old Skyway street beat that he painted hot pink (see pic). We road Rays twice—thanks Ray. Managed to find Chenga and it was insane. Awesome bowl and the rest of the park was way to fun. Went out to Panini’s every night and they hooked it up, ridaz working there, holla.

The whole week was fun as hell, layed some blackies (check the pic) road a whole bunch, judged and had the best seat in the house for Dew Tour, saw Chase Gouin ride flat, and wall road the Rock n Roll hall of fame glass windows. Sorry for all the party pics, cleveland breeds this. Video is coming soon….

What’s up guys, Vanessa here with some more sweet news from Destin, FL. There was a comp there last month. This comp was one of the last Flow Series stop. This event was a little bit different for me. I had arrived at 10am thinking still had sometime left to practice but I was wrong… :( Practice had ended at 10. I still placed 5th against the guys, which I think is pretty awesome :) … But I still managed to place 1st in the women’s body boarding division :D … Stay tuned for news from my next stop in Pennsylvania.

For the past two years I have traveled to Japan for the sole purpose of touring around the country side promoting one of my biggest sponsors Underground Products, or to most people UGP. And for the past two years this has been the best part of my year. Japan is a beautiful country filled the nicest coolest people I’ve ever met. The wake scene in Japan is huge and everywhere I go I’m surround by crazy different riding spots, eager riding partners, and good times.

This year was a little different then last because we had a winch. So we spent more time driving around looking for unique spots that only the winch could allow us to ride. This year instead of giving the footage to ESPN Japan we kept it so I could make a web vid and show some highlights of my trip.

My trip started by flying to Fukoka, Japan from Manila, Philippines where I was for the CWC wake park worlds. (You can read more about this trip on my gatorboards blog). I had had water in my ear for a few days and I could feel and ear infection coming on when I got on the plane. Kaz, the UGP distributor for Japan, tour guide for the next two weeks and all around super good guy picked me up form the airport with a smile and extreme hospitality everyone in Japan seems to possess. We went to Andre’s house (the guy driving the winch in the opening shot of the vid), had a few beers and crashed.

The next day I woke up and my ear infection had gotten so bad I couldn’t move my mouth without pain shooting through my head. Kaz insisted on taking me to the hospital. I don’t like or go to hospitals too much but Kaz did all the talking and the doctor cleaned my ear out put some gel goop in there and told me to stay out of the water for 4 days, I was so bummed. We spent most of the day chilling at Andre’s shop watching videos and playing Wii Fit. We went across the street and checked out this rice patty spillway spot to winch. As soon as I saw it the doctor’s orders went out the window. It was perfect we wheeled the grinch across the street I stuck an earplug in my ear and walked out the line. I don’t winch that much and when I do I usually am hitting rails. So to get to jam on a mellow drop down was one of the funnest sets of my life.

The spot Kaz and I hit was Shiga, Shimizu City. We met up with Kanzawa at the largest fresh water lake in Japan. Unfortunately it also had the largest rollers in Japan. The only calm water was in the sailboat-parking bay…. So we took out the winch and hit it up. Hahahahaha so much fun. The next day the wind was not so bad so we hit up this little rail Kanzawa made to end out my stay in Shiga.

We spent the next three days in this beautiful little town in the mountains where a local wakeboard tournament was being held. We met up with Kazoo, a UGP wakeskater from Kyushu set up the winch and jammed on this little rail that Kaz had set up. Everyone was stoked to try the winch and it was something cool to watch in-between riders. Next we went to Kagawa to Takamatu City. There I met the TONTONOTN wakesk8 crew. They run a seaport and ride in the channel out front. These guys are what wakeskating and riding is all about. Super into the scene, into learning new tricks and helping each other progress. It was fun riding in the salt and I love talking about and teaching wakeskating to riders that are really into progressing.

They had built a little up flat hub rail so the last day I was there they put it in the sand near shore and we set up the winch and I didn’t realize it until they started hitting it that none of them had ever hit a rail before. So the rail coach in me kicked in and by the end of the day they where killing it. Before I left for Osaka they made me an honorary member of TONTONTON and gave me a shirt, I was stoked. Osaka was our last stop and the one I was looking forward to the most. My really good friend Matsukawa lives there and we where going to stay and ride with him. The first few days it was the Japanese armature nationals so we went there Kazoo and Matsu ended up getting 1st and 3rd. I was not allowed to ride in the comp but I got to do a little demo and that was really fun everyone pumped me up.

My favorite day in Osaka was when Kaz, Matsu and I went to the Yodogawa River. Kaz filmed and Matsu and I took turns busting lines under and around this crazy bridge. After all the winching it was nice to “just ride”.

The support for UGP in Japan is always overwhelming thanks to everyone that hooked us up and a huge HUGE thanks to Kaz for taking such good care of me and setting up such cool spots for me to ride and chill at. So go check out the vid I made of my trip or if you watched it first then that’s it…until next year.

I’m currently in Syracuse, New York doing demos at the New York state fair. It’s been a great time—having decent ramps and a good group of people to ride with makes all the difference. And seeing bands like Journey, Def Leppard and Cheap Trick play in the evenings makes it even more interesting. I’m here in NY one more week than back to Minnesota for a bit. Here’s a quick vid:

Grandpa got a package today from Florida and a bunch of new UGP gear was in it. So stoked!!! I put on a new shirt and promptly went out to Momentum (DK’s indoor bike park) and ate shit. Who needs coffee when you are bleeding at 9am? I am heading out to Portland, Oregon for stop #3 of the AST Dew Tour.

Dave Freimuth will be out there judging and I’m sure showing the Dew ridaz what pegs are as none of those knuckleheads run pegs. (INSERT SOAPBOX SPEECH HERE:) Hey kids!!!! A bike without pegs is a race bike. Put some pegs on and learn something. Speaking of pegs…DO SOMETHING WITH THOSE BIKES!!!! IF I SEE ONE MORE FLAT BLACK BIKE I AM GOING TO SNAP!! I PAINTED MY BIKE IN PROTEST OF THE BORING BIKES IN BMX (STEPS DOWN FROM SOAPBOX)

Aside from that…I’ve been chilling for 6 days since getting home from the X-mess. BK rode awesome and ended up in 4th in BMX street. I got yelled at by a lot of security guards and I publicly humilated a few as well. After the gaymes I hit up San Diego for a week to ride and shoot photos for DK, snorkle, and get my sweet sweet surf on. It was a nice little vacation. Here are some pics. Five days and no riding, this mother effer is really taking its toll on me. What’s one to do with all this spare time on their hands? FedEx managed to drop two fresh new skates to my door, despite Wednesday’s foul weather. Talk about adding insult to injury… but hey I at least kept myself occupied yesterday by throwing some stickers on my boards.
